Fifty Tonnes of ANFO explodes at Charleville

2014 September 5 – A truck carrying at least fifty tonnes of ammonium nitrate crashed and exploded along Mitchell Highway at Wyandra, 30km south of Charleville, Australia, as it overturned and caught fire at around 9:50 in the late evening.

Gamma Butyrolactone Ban Proposed

To produce an interim scheduling decision, the delegate of the Secretary of the Department of Health invites the public to submit their comments on the proposal to restrict the use of gamma butyrolactone in the manufacture of cosmetics and other types of products. Submissions will be accepted until September 11, 2014 while the interim decision is expected to be released on February 5, 2015.

International Organisations Respond to Ebola Virus Outbreak

In response to the Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) outbreak and to augment global efforts in containing the spread of the disease, various international organisations - the World Health Organisation (WHO), the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO), the World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO), Airports Council International (ACI), International Air Transport Association (IATA) and the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) – made a decision to create a Travel and Transport Task Force. The said task force is responsible for monitoring current updates and developments on the issue. Moreover, it is also in charge in generating useful information for the travel and tourism sector and travellers.
